I absolutely love Boston Terriers. I have two, Bitsy who is 2 years old and Baby who is 11 years old. The visual cues that I take from this picture are color and depth. I love the contrast between the bright pink of the flower and the simplistic black and white pattern that is so characteristic of the Boston Terrier breed. I think black and pink are very striking together. The eye first goes to the flower and then to the contrasting black directly to the right.
The depth of the picture is done very well. The background is less focused, while the flower and boston terrier are crisp and clear, appearing very much in the foreground. You can tell that this is obviously an outdoor picture by the blurred images of trees and grass in the background. As a depth cue, color plays a role in that the high-contrast between the pink and black allows the objects to seem closer than the lighter green backgroud. Another depth cue, lighting, is also at work here with great use of natural lighting.
This picture just shows the beauty of nature and the curiosity animals have of the world around them. I think an appropriate title for this picture would be "take time to stop and smell the roses." (If you click on the picture, the creator of this photo mentions that two seconds later, the Boston took a nice big bite out of the flower. That sounds like something my Bitsy would do!) All in all, I think it is a real fun pose and the photographer chose a great angle to capture the moment.
